America's Best Animal Hospitals 2025

Taking care of four-legged family members is a central concern for pet owners. When sick, pets rely on their owners to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment—a responsibility that many animal lovers take as seriously as managing their own health.

Pet care is big business in the U.S., where 66 percent of households--or 86.9 million homes--include a nonhuman family member, according to the American Pet Products Association. In 2023, those pet owners spent $38.3 billion on their animals' veterinarian care and vet products, a figure that's expected to top $39 billion this year.

To help people find the best care for their furry (or other) friends, Newsweek is partnering with data analytics firm Plant-A Insights Group for the 2025 ranking of America's Best Animal Hospitals. Based on more than 5 million customer ratings and reviews, the ranking recognizes the top 500 animal hospitals in the United States that stand out for delivering the highest quality veterinary care.

Loving animals means taking the best possible care of them, and the specialists honored with a spot on this ranking offer the highest level of treatment for some of your family's most beloved members.

METHODOLOGY

The ranking of America's Best Animal Hospitals recognizes the top 500 animal hospitals in the United States based on quality of care provided. To identify the top 500 animal hospitals, we conducted an extensive and thorough desk research effort to create a database of over 15,000 animal hospitals. We collected and analyzed more than 5 million customer ratings and reviews from social media for these animal hospitals from the last five years. The hospitals were evaluated in terms of their overall customer ratings and 8 key categories of service and facility quality.

The final scoring model combines average ratings, net sentiment, and bonus points for special services and American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accreditation. Animal hospitals are scored and ranked based on four dimensions:

1. Overall star ratings

2. Category sentiment based on 8 key categories

3. Special services offered

4. AAHA accreditation

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) has been advancing veterinary excellence since 1933, with nearly 5,000 accredited practices across North America and beyond. AAHA-accredited hospitals voluntarily meet rigorous standards for quality medicine and take an individualized approach to care, prioritizing high-quality medicine, patient comfort, and stress levels. Media Monitoring / validation. The Critical Mention Media Monitoring Platform from Onclusive was utilized to screen press coverage of all hospitals that were part of critical events relevant to the project in the past 2 years. Newsweek and Plant-A reserves the right to remove hospitals from the ranking
