Whether it's for meal plans, professional guidance or access to medications like GLP-1s, weight loss clinics can offer personalized assistance for those hoping to make sustainable lifestyle changes. In fact, clinics have consistently proven to produce better long-term outcomes for slimming down than doing it alone, and the U.S. medical weight loss industry is expected to grow by 4.3 percent each year over the next decade.

With so much important progress in the field, Newsweek and Statista are partnering for the first time to name America's Best Weight Loss Clinics & Centers 2025, recognizing 200 facilities across the country that have helped people achieve healthy, sustainable weight loss.

This list was determined by a national survey of medical professionals with knowledge of weight loss, including bariatricians, bariatric nurses and general practitioners. Each participant provided names of the top facilities they would recommend outside of their own, also assessing four quality dimensions – staffing, equipment, patient-centered care and patient safety. In addition to the survey, this list considers Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program accreditations.

METHODOLOGY

The weight loss market is experiencing consistent growth, driven by new technologies that offer a wide range of options to support individuals on their weight loss journey. These advancements provide personalized, effective solutions for those seeking to manage their weight.

For the first time, Statista and Newsweek have partnered to award the leading weight loss clinics and centers in the U.S., for those aiming to make long-term and sustainable lifestyle changes with the best medical guidance.

America's Best Weight Loss Clinics & Centers 2025 awards the 200 leading hospitals/centers and standalone clinics in the field of weight loss in the U.S., which are sorted alphabetically.

Weight loss clinics and centers that meet the pre-defined selection criteria were considered for the list. This included all U.S. hospitals and standalone clinics that offer weight loss services (e.g., bariatric surgery, non-surgical medical weight loss programs, etc.).

The list is based on three data sources:

• National online survey collecting weight loss clinic recommendations from peers: accounts for 80 percent of the total score.
• Quality dimensions: accounts for 15 percent of the total score.
• Accreditation score: accounts for 5 percent of the total score.

National Online Survey – Weight loss clinics and centers recommendations from peers

80 percent of the total score is based on the results from a national online survey in which health care professionals with knowledge about weight loss (e.g., bariatricians, registered bariatric nurses, general practitioners, and clinic managers) were asked to recommend leading weight loss hospitals and/or standalone clinics in the U.S.

From August to September 2024, Newsweek and Statista invited thousands of medical professionals to an online survey. Participants were asked to name the leading weight loss clinics and centers. The professional experience of the participant was taken into account. Recommendations for their own employer were not allowed.

Quality dimensions

• For each recommended facility, participants were asked to rate four quality dimensions on a scale from 1 ("Poor") to 10 ("Excellent"):

- Provision of care and patient safety
- Patient-centered care (education, counseling and support services)
- Overall nurse staffing
- Technical equipment

• A quality dimensions score was assigned to each facility based on the weighted average of these ratings.

The quality dimensions constitute 15% of the total score.

Accreditation Score

The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) is a voluntary accreditation program by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

Accreditation is granted upon thorough review of a center's ability to maintain certain physical resources, human resources, and standards of practice.

The MBSAQIP not only establishes consistent standards of excellence but also fosters ongoing quality improvement.

Since not all weight loss clinics and centers offer bariatric surgery and accreditation is not relevant for every facility, these clinics were evaluated based on a scoring model comprising only peer recommendations and quality dimensions.

Accredited facilities receive 5% towards the total score.

The rankings are comprised exclusively of clinics/ centers that are eligible regarding the scope described in this document. The ranking is the result of an elaborate process which, due to the interval of data-collection and analysis, is a reflection of the last 12 months. Furthermore, events preceding or following the period October 12th, 2023 – October 11th, 2024, and/or pertaining to individual persons affiliated/associated with the facilities were not included in the metrics. As such, the results of this ranking should not be used as the sole source of information for future deliberations.

The information provided in this ranking should be considered in conjunction with other available information about clinics/centers or, if possible, accompanied by a visit to a facility. The quality of clinics/centers that are not included in the rankings is not disputed.
