Shock as Bride Reveals Makeup Before and After Following 7 Internet Tips

A bride-to-be turned to the internet for makeup advice ahead of her wedding, and social media has come through with their incredible tips and tricks.

Hannah, 32, planned to do her own makeup when she gets married in June 2025. But there was one major problem: the bride-to-be told Newsweek that she "had no clue where to start."

Her makeup routine had always been a quick five-minute process, and while she felt that it "looked okay," it never turned out as she hoped it would.

"I was a teenager in the times of the great beauty YouTubers, but I just didn't know how to apply makeup to my own face," Hannah, from the United Kingdom, said. "I spent years watching YouTubers like Manny MUA and Sophdoeslife, but I was very much a beginner in application, not knowing what was right for me."

With a few months to go before her big day, Hannah decided to try improving her makeup skills to achieve a flawless look. Her biggest concerns were the techniques she used to apply it and finding the "right tones and shades" for her complexion.

Hannah visited a handful of stores to try various products, which only made her more frustrated and confused. So, it was time to call in the big guns: she turned to social media to ask the internet for advice.

"I know how powerful it can be when a community comes together, and if you want raw, unfiltered honesty, you ask the internet," Hannah said. "They'll give you the good, the bad, and the downright distasteful. You have to have a pretty thick skin to ask the internet to pick apart your face for free."

She took to TikTok and Instagram (@hannahanniex) on February 1 to share a video of her makeup routine and asked viewers what "makeup blindness" she has and what their advice would be. The video went viral, amassing over 3.3 million views and 118,100 likes.

Social media users didn't disappoint. As the makeup tips flooded in, Hannah was so grateful to everyone offering their help. She made notes of all the helpful advice and is gradually making her way through it.

"Most of the help has been about technique, shade suggestions, and how to work with my bone structure and perceived color season," Hannah said. "I am quite a conscious consumer, so I haven't rushed out and bought everything that everyone told me to. It's been more of a slow process of working with what I have and exploring different ways to apply it."

So far, Hannah's favorite piece of advice has been to use a color corrector under her eyes. That's undoubtedly been a game-changer.

While she still considers herself a beginner in beauty, Hannah now spends around 40 minutes on her makeup and has learned new skills that will last a lifetime. She has also enhanced her skincare routine to get the most out of her makeup.

Hannah has continued sharing videos online showing how her skills have progressed since following the advice.

The Internet's Key Tips:

1. Applying 2 to 3 times as much foundation
2. Using warm tones instead of cool tones
3. Applying blush in a higher position
4. Swapping bronzer and contour
5. Applying a darker lip
6. Using setting spray
7. Switching to a warmer peach tone concealer for under the eyes

"I've learned to love the features I once wished I didn't have," Hannah said. "I've found a level of confidence in myself I never even knew existed. I'm a childhood cancer survivor, and this has helped me to see myself as a beautiful person rather than picking out the parts that have been affected by a battle with my health. So that has been totally priceless."

Within a week of going viral, Hannah shared a progress video showing how far her makeup routine had come thanks to the internet's help. The video has stunned social media users, leading to more than 858,400 views and 60,900 likes.

What makes her even more excited is how long she still has to refine her skills and take on even more advice. Thanks to social media, Hannah has been introduced to new techniques, products and brands that she never imagined she could try.

With over 360 comments on her progress video, internet users have praised her new routine, and of course, the tips continue pouring in.

One comment reads: "This is actually one of the cutest things on TikTok I have seen in a while, I love when girls lift other girls up."

Another TikTok user wrote: "I've been on this journey with you and am loving the results!"

"I'm doing my own wedding makeup and you're convincing me to post vids to get the TikTok girlies help too," a commenter said.
