Christy Carlson Romano, a former Disney Channel star known for Even Stevens and Kim Possible, is recovering after being shot in the face during a clay pigeon shooting outing.
The actress said on Instagram that another person in her group fired unsafely in the wrong direction, hitting her in five places, including dangerously close to her right eye.
"There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face," Romano wrote in an Instagram post.
While she expressed gratitude for surviving the accident, the incident has led to online speculation about her political beliefs, with some attempting to link her without evidence to the MAGA (Make America Great Again) pro-Trump political movement.
Some users began leaving comments on her posts, calling her "MAGA," and saying they wished she had been more seriously hurt.
Romano reposted some of the comments on her Instagram story on Monday, layered over a picture of herself swearing at the camera.
Romano has made no explicit political endorsements or affiliations. The comments she received illustrate the intensity of America's cultural and political divides—where actions, hobbies, or a tenuous association with guns apparently prompt knee-jerk assumptions about a person's beliefs.
Who is Christy Carlson Romano?
Romano became a household name in the early 2000s through her work on Disney Channel, starring as Ren Stevens on Even Stevens and voicing Kim Possible.

Since her days as a child star, she has built a career in content creation, sharing reflections on Hollywood, personal challenges, and insights into the entertainment industry.
She has remained a public figure through her YouTube channel, podcasting, and social media presence.
Is Christy Carlson Romano a MAGA Supporter?
Romano has not publicly expressed support for nor opposition to President Donald Trump or the MAGA political movement.
She has not publicly endorsed or opposed specific political figures or movements, according to reviews of her social media posts and interviews. Her publicly shared content focuses largely on her family life, reflections on child stardom, and mental health rather than political issues.
In interviews and on her YouTube channel and podcast, Romano typically discusses personal anecdotes from her time as a child actor, offers advice to others in the entertainment industry, and speaks about her own mental health journey. She has not used these platforms to share partisan views or to advocate for particular policies.
Her husband, Brendan Rooney, shared the same photo of Romano in the hospital, minus users' MAGA comments, while addressing her resilience in his Instagram caption.
"My wife gets shot, I ask to take a picture for the record, she flips me the bird and smiles (she nearly lost her eye mind you). When they say there's no such thing as, 'The One' they lie...," Rooney wrote. "I love you so much and I'm so grateful you're safe and that you're going to be okay. I will be by your side forever."
In her Instagram post reflecting on the accident, she emphasized gratitude for life and loved ones, writing, "With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much."
How Badly Was Christy Carlson Romano Injured?
Romano was celebrating her husband's birthday over the weekend when the accident occurred. According to her account, another person present at the shooting range fired in the wrong direction, striking her face with shotgun pellets.
The injuries included five separate wounds, with one pellet landing less than an inch from her right eye. She revealed that while her vision remains intact, doctors are closely monitoring her condition, as one fragment remains lodged behind her eye and is too risky to remove surgically at this time.
"Unfortunately, a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time," Romano stated.
Romano also reflected on the severity of the incident, writing, "I saw my life flash before my eyes, and I'm telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant."
