Grimes Takes Aim at Elon Musk's Latest Parenting Decision

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors

Grimes (real name Claire Boucher) is voicing her frustration about a parenting decision her ex Elon Musk made regarding their son X Æ A-Xii.

On Tuesday, February 11, X Æ, 4, accompanied his billionaire father to the white house and was present during a recorded conference in the Oval Office with President Trump. The 53-year-old Tesla CEO was there to speak on an executive order Trump was signing regarding his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

During the conference, X Æ A-Xii could be seen bouncing around and talking. At one point, while X Æ A-Xii was muttering something, Musk said, "Ok, X," put his hands on his son's face, and laughed. The toddler eventually sat on his dad's shoulders, and the SpaceX founder apologized to the reporters for the distraction. "Sorry for this. I thought my son might enjoy this, but he's sticking his fingers in my ears and stuff, so it's been hard to hear sometimes," he admitted.

A user on X (formerly Twitter) responded to an unrelated post that Grimes, 36, had made on Tuesday and noted, "Lil X was very polite today! You raised him well. He was so cute when he told DJT 'please forgive me, I need to pee'".

The Canadian singer responded to the user, clarifying that she disagreed with Musk's decision to allow X Æ A-Xii to be in the spotlight.

"He should not be in public like this. I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I'm glad he was polite. Sigh," the singer-songwriter posted on the platform.

In November 2024, Grimes opened up about her strained relationship with Musk and ongoing custody battle in a post on X.

"Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers rights having my instagram posts and modeling used as reasons I shouldn't have my kids and fighting and detaching from the love of my life as he becomes unrecognizable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or iq/ strategy experience), all the while I didn't see one of my babies for 5 months," she wrote.

Besides X Æ A-Xii, Grimes and Musk also share children Exa Dark Sideræl, 3, and Tau Techno Mechanicus, 2. The couple was first romantically linked in 2018 and had an on-again-off-again relationship for years. All told, Musk has fathered 12 children.
