Tears at Mom's Reaction To Best Friend Surprising Her for 70th Birthday

A 70-year-old woman has TikTok appreciating girlhood in an entirely new way.

In a viral TikTok video posted by her daughter, Hannah, the woman got the surprise of a lifetime when she walked into her birthday party and saw her best friend of over 50 years standing there—sending her into a full-on, joy-filled scream that has TikTok in tears. Hannah, 34, spoke to Newsweek about the significance of the moment and how she pulled off the surprise with the help of her family.

In the video, which now has 1.4 million views and over 370,000 likes, the birthday girl lets out an ear-piercing scream the moment she lays eyes on her best friend, Dousy, before rushing into her arms for a hug. The pure happiness of the reunion had viewers overwhelmed.

Some compared it to the famous dock scene in the Mamma Mia film, where Meryl Streep and her gal pals reunite in Greece.

"The 'Mamma Mia' friend reunion in the first movie where they run on the dock screaming," one person wrote.

A friendship spanning 5 decades

Hannah said the pair of best friends met when they were just 18 and 19 years old at Kansas State University.

"My mom was Dousy's sorority mom," she said. "Dousy is what we call my mom's BFF, from her last name, Vanderdousen. They're 70 and 69 now, so they've known each other forever."

Dousy, who lives in Philadelphia, had been secretly invited by Hannah a month prior.

Hannah said she and her boyfriend picked her up from the airport just in time for the party, which was held at Hannah's sister's house. The best part? Her mom had no idea she was walking into a celebration—she thought she was just coming over to babysit.

"My mom thought she was babysitting. She came to the door with a 'Rock 'Em Sock 'Em'," Hannah added, referring to the two-player game where players control robot boxers trying to knock each other's blocks off—which made the moment even more hilarious.

A weekend to remember

After the tearful reunion, Hannah said the birthday party was filled with love and laughter.

In her family, she said, it's tradition to write poems for the birthday person, so everyone took turns reading heartfelt verses to her mom. The rest of the weekend was spent reminiscing with family, including Hannah's aunts who had also traveled in for the occasion.

"My mom and Dousy just talked and talked and shared old stories, which was very entertaining to listen to," she said. "They hadn't seen each other in years."

The video resonated deeply with viewers, with one person writing: "Maybe 70 will be filled with love and beautiful things. Maybe I can't wait."

If this reunion is any indication, 70 is looking pretty wonderful already.
