William Byron Just Pulled Off a Daytona 500 Feat Only Four Others Have

At 27 years old, William Byron has achieved back-to-back victories in the legendary Daytona 500, joining an elite group of only four other drivers in history to do so.

Byron clinched his latest win at the Daytona 500 for the second time in a row, a feat only achieved by the likes of legendary drivers Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Sterling Marlin, and Denny Hamlin.

For Byron, these wins are more than just that; they secure his place in the motorsport's hall of fame, adding to his legacy with Hendrick Motorsports.

The Daytona 500, often heralded as The Great American Race, begins the 2025 season and can make or break a driver's confidence before the season builds momentum. Every driver will want to prove themselves in this legendary event, but winning the Daytona 500 is no small feat. Byron's consecutive wins certainly set him apart from the pack.

Joining an exclusive club of drivers who've won the Daytona 500 back-to-back, Byron finds himself in the company of Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Sterling Marlin, and Denny Hamlin. Petty, known as "The King," dominated NASCAR in the 1970s, securing his consecutive Daytona 500 wins in 1973 and 1974. Cale Yarborough, another strong driver from the sport's history, claimed his back-to-back titles in 1983 and 1984. Fast forward to the mid-'90s, Sterling Marlin mirrored their success with victories in 1995 and 1996, while more recently, Denny Hamlin achieved this feat in 2019 and 2020.

Team-wise, Byron's victory is a landmark moment for Hendrick Motorsports. With this win, the team surpasses Petty Enterprises, setting a new record for the most Daytona 500 wins by a team.

The reaction to Byron's victory has been strong, with NASCAR celebrating his success on their Instagram account:

"@williambyron becomes the fifth driver to go back-to-back in the #DAYTONA500."

Byron will now be focused on carrying this momentum forward into the next major race coming this week: the Ambetter Health 400. Set to take place on February 23 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, you can catch it on Fox Sports at 3:00 PM ET.
