A mom from the United Kingdom thought she was getting a Valentine's surprise when she walked into a room to find the bed covered with rose petals, until she noticed a little detail that changed everything.
In a viral TikTok video shared on Saturday under the username @simoneyasmin2, the poster walks into her bedroom to find rose petals all over the bed and on the floor, prompting her to think something special was waiting for her.
However, her hopes are immediately shattered when she notices a shoe randomly lying on her pillow. It turns out that what she's seeing is not a romantic gesture, but rather an act of vandalism by her dog.
"I fort [thought] she was being romantic. Turns out it was the dog," reads layover text in the clip, as the poster shows the rest of the room, also covered with little bits of roses and stems that her dog had chewed off and dragged around.
Just like the poster didn't get a Valentine's surprise, many Americans may not have gotten one either. Data by Statista shows that only 56 percent of respondents planned to celebrate Valentine's Day this year.
While this number saw an increase compared to 53 percent last year, it's also decreased from the late 2000s and early 2010s when about 60 percent of Americans planned to celebrate the day.
This year, more than 40 percent of Americans who celebrated love on February 14, said they had planned to spend less than usual due to rising costs, however, data shows that at least $6.5 billion was estimated to be spent on jewelry alone.
The second most popular gift was an evening out, which cost Americans about $5.4 billion, and then flowers, with a hefty price of $2.9 billion.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 1 million views and 77,100 likes on the platform.
